Gates, garages and barriers: choose for the actual movement.

A home entrance, residential complex and car park have different usage patterns. Before selecting a motor or remote, describe the existing gate or door, its movement, users and busy periods. This category covers physical access automation, distinct from building automation.

Selection preparation, not safety approval. Mechanics, protective devices, connections and tests require a competent site assessment. A motor or kit does not establish the safety of the complete installation.

Four functions to include in the brief

  1. 1 · Move the gate or door

A swing leaf pivots; a sliding gate moves sideways. Mechanisms and clearances differ. Record dimensions, documented weight, mountings and mechanical condition; have the gate assessed before requesting motorisation.

  2. 2 · Manage commands

Identify the control panel or board, receivers and any intercom or access-control interfaces. Ask which commands are accepted and what feedback is available: an opening request and an observed position remain different information.

  3. 3 · Address site risks

Protection depends on the whole system: geometry, trapping areas, sensors, control and moving behaviour. A photocell alone does not establish complete protection. Ask the installer for an assessment and tests for your entrance.

  4. 4 · Prepare everyday use

Specify users, remote-control management, fault instructions and follow-up responsibility. Request instructions for the installed model and an acceptance report; do not improvise a release procedure from a different motor.

Compare mechanisms, not just power ratings

Information that makes the quotation useful

  1. Plan, photos and reliable measurements

Attach an entrance plan and views from both sides. Separate known measurements from estimates; flag slopes, obstacles and proximity to public roads. Do not provide access codes or sensitive remote-control information.

  2. Usage pattern and conditions

Record daily traffic and the busiest hour, regular users and visitors, and climate constraints. Have the model’s duty cycle confirmed rather than selecting solely by its advertised maximum weight.

  3. Supply and installation scope

List the drive, controls, documented accessories and work still to assess. Identify who is responsible for mechanics, electrics, safety and acceptance. A motor price does not implicitly include these services.

What this category does not validate

The HSE reference below provides machinery-safety principles from the United Kingdom; it is not advice on Moroccan obligations or a conformity certificate. Competent professionals must establish site requirements. No dangerous test or protective-device bypass is proposed here.

Catalogue items are not all components of one automation system. Verify each reference, generation, voltage and interface. A similar-looking remote or shared frequency is not evidence of compatibility with the existing receiver.

Questions before requesting a drive

Can the existing gate be reused?

Start with a mechanical inspection and site measurements. Include known defects and references of retained equipment. Whether it can be motorised or its motor replaced must be confirmed after assessment, not inferred from a photograph.

What connection should be planned for the intercom?

Describe the expected action and user rights: call, authorisation, opening request and any position feedback. Have the exact interface checked. An intercom replaces neither the gate safety assessment nor its protective functions.
