PRACTICAL GUIDE / VIDEO DISTRIBUTION

The right source. The right screen. The right format.

Build a source-and-destination matrix, then qualify every path. Keep resolution, frame rate, audio, distance and content rights explicit through acceptance.

For professionals preparing signage, presentation or audiovisual distribution

Meeting room with a display, table and generic audiovisual equipment.
Generated conceptual illustration. Generic equipment; not a client installation, installation drawing or product reference.

01

“4K” does not describe the whole requirement.

Write the requirement as a path: identified source → intermediate equipment → identified screen. Add resolution, frame rate, expected colour rendering, audio and operating conditions. Request documented input/output capabilities for that exact combination. A product headline or panel resolution does not demonstrate that the complete path carries the required format.

EDID communicates display capabilities; HDCP concerns protection of some content. These are separate issues. Plan verification across the proposed chain without forcing an unsupported format or bypassing protection. An unprotected test picture alone does not prove operation with authorised protected content.

02

Name the function before choosing the box.

Scroll the table horizontally to compare all three columns.

FunctionRequirement to writeDo not infer
Source selectionWhich computer or player must feed the selected destination?Source switching does not guarantee format adaptation.
DuplicationIs the same picture required on multiple screens?Duplicating a signal does not necessarily allow different programmes.
MatrixWhich sources need to reach which destinations?Connector count does not prove every required simultaneous combination.
Format adaptationWhich input format must become which output format? This function must be documented, not assumed for every distributor.
Point-to-point or network transportRecord transmitter, receiver, medium, route and any network infrastructure.Connector shape is not enough to connect it to an Ethernet switch.

03

Prepare a schedule that can actually be checked.

  1. Sources and destinations

Identify each computer, player, display and audio zone. One row links a source to a destination with required format and status: required, optional or prohibited. Add simultaneous combinations, selection owner and start-up behaviour. A display quantity does not describe these uses.

  2. Complete path

Split every path into patch lead, socket, extension, transport, receiver and final lead. Record known lengths, crossings, power, maintenance access and intermediate references. Keep “to survey” rather than inventing distances. Have limits confirmed for the selected format and medium; category cable does not imply a universal range.

  3. Audio and operation

Assign audio to a named zone, including when separated from the picture. Specify who controls level and who may display a document on a public screen. Record schedules, display orientation, ambient light and content updates. TV-channel distribution and copying a player’s picture are separate requirements to qualify.

04

Two lit screens, one requirement still missing.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE

Fictional paper case: the requirement is 3,840 × 2,160 at 60 frames/s on D-01 and D-02. Example documents support that format on D-01 but only 30 frames/s at that resolution along D-02. These figures belong to no catalogue product.

  1. Check each column, not the label

Both rows may say “4K”, but D-02 does not meet the required frame rate. The proposal fails that requirement even with a visible picture. Identify the limiting item in the documentation; screen appearance alone does not establish the cause.

  2. A concession is not a silent pass

Reducing the format to display on both destinations changes the requirement. Present the alternative and its effect to the owner and retain their explicit choice. Without agreement, do not replace 60 with 30 in the report to make the discrepancy disappear.

  3. The right picture does not excuse the wrong audio zone

The report then expects audio in Z-01 but observes it in Z-02. Audio routing fails independently of video format. Keep this exception with observed destinations. Acceptance must cover absence from prohibited zones, not only presence on an authorised display.

Document-only example with no real stream or equipment recommendation. It validates no codec, content protection, network capacity or distribution rights.

05

Plan acceptance before fixing the equipment list.

  1. One result per path

The acceptance protocol identifies source, destination, format, authorised content, expected audio and conditions. Include start-up, selection, source changes and recovery after an authorised interruption. Record observations and limits rather than grouping several paths under “video OK”.

  2. Documents and responsibilities

Hand over the flow matrix, cable labels, versions, selected formats and approved settings to the designated owner. Keep access credentials in the agreed secure channel, not a public sheet. Any product substitution requires review of affected paths and evidence.

06

Request a documented system, not a magic box.

Attach the flow schedule, routes, retained references and unknowns to your Inovexia enquiry. Separate mandatory needs and options. Request a reply identifying proposed items and combinations still requiring confirmation, without treating catalogue presence as compatibility assurance. Site and content validation remain separate from the commercial proposal.

07

Clarify distribution before requesting a quote.

Must every screen receive the same format?

It depends on architecture and documented functions. State the desired result per destination and ask how the proposal provides it. Do not assume independent adaptation on every output without evidence.

Does a more expensive cable solve everything?

Diagnosis must identify the failing segment and function. Check reference, length, connectors, format and intermediate equipment together. A cable replacement does not fix a wrong destination or missing function.

Can the existing IT network be used?

First confirm that the selected transport is actually intended for that network. Give documented requirements to IT: simultaneous streams, required functions and management. Do not connect a transmitter to a switch because the plug looks the same.

Does receiving a channel authorise public distribution?

No distribution right is determined by this guide. Have the relevant rights holders or responsible parties verify authorisations for your content and use. Technical capability is not permission.

What if a format remains unknown?

Keep the field “to confirm” and identify the document or test needed. Request an explicit conditional proposal rather than a general promise. Quotation preparation can advance without presenting an unknown as established.
