SECTOR / HEALTHCARE PREMISES

Clear infrastructure, from reception to restricted areas.

Plan reception, administrative desks, guest networking and building equipment without confusing general IT with medical devices. A good brief also identifies what must not change.

Practices · care centres · facility managers · IT and technical teams

01

Start with workflows, not a “medical” equipment label.

Separate the visitor journey, reception work and staff tasks. For each workstation, record its function, hours, necessary access and responsible person. Describe interfaces with existing software without attaching patient records, identifiable screenshots or access secrets to a commercial enquiry.

Adding wireless networking in a care setting must account for existing systems. FDA highlights assessment of wireless medical-device coexistence and interference. This US reference is not Moroccan certification: IT and biomedical owners and relevant manufacturers define necessary validation.

03

A useful brief without patient data.

  1. Plans and anonymised uses

Attach a zone plan and workstation functions. Use neutral labels and fictional data in examples. Mask names, appointments, treatment images and identifiers before sharing.

  2. Inventory and exclusions

Separate office hardware, building equipment and clinical devices. Record models and versions without assuming compatibility. Identify what remains outside scope and who may authorise changes.

  3. Access and responsibilities

Describe services available to reception, staff, contractors and guests. Plan permission revocation and handover. Data protection also concerns organisation and software, not only the supplied network.

  4. Change window and continuity

Agree a window and rollback with owners. Name retained IT loads and the desired outcome; do not infer runtime from a power rating or suitability for medical equipment.

  5. Authorised checks

Prepare checks only for agreed services, using test accounts and content. Record who validates business results, limitations and untested points. No exercise may disrupt actual care.

04

Example: improve waiting without opening the internal network.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE

Fictional centre: information screen E-01 and guest Wi-Fi G-01. Care software, medical devices and call systems remain outside scope; no patient data is used.

  1. Define two paths

E-01 shows approved general content without names or appointments. G-01 offers agreed visitor access. Identified roles administer them, not an unrestricted shared account.

  2. Validate before activation

Have designated owners review networking and radio constraints. A different Wi-Fi name does not prove isolation; request rules and a test procedure limited to authorised test resources.

  3. Verify and hand over

Check E-01 content and G-01 allowed/denied access using fictional data. Record observations, update owners and exclusions; no active test on a clinical device is included.

Planning example, not an approved clinical architecture. Usage separation and general checks establish neither medical compliance nor absence of risk for every device.

05

IT equipment does not become a medical device.

Selecting a UPS for administrative workstations requires a load inventory and documented constraints. It does not qualify power for a treatment device or life-support function: those uses need specific assessment and competent-owner validation. Likewise, no catalogue link, access example or waiting-room screen establishes confidentiality, health-data hosting or clinical-safety compliance.

06

Questions before preparing the brief.

Can guest Wi-Fi share staff applications?

That is not the requirement here. Define allowed resources with IT and verify separation in an agreed test scope. A visitor must not receive extra permissions merely by using the same building.

May I send a sample patient file for a quotation?

No: describe the function without patient data. Use fictional examples and cleaned screenshots; commercial documents do not need names, care data, identifiers or passwords.

Are medical devices included in selection?

No. This page covers general building and administrative equipment. Any clinical-system connection remains unvalidated until reviewed by relevant owners and manufacturers.

How should a change during operating hours be organised?

Agree a scope, window and decision owner. Prepare rollback and stopping conditions; an urgent request does not authorise improvised testing on a care service.
